Tim moved to Chester as a young child, when his father retired from the RCAF and returned to his Nova Scotia roots.
Tim has a varied background, including several run-ins, in the 70's, with higher education at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and the Business School at Dalhousie University. Beginning in 1978, Tim spent a considerable amount of time in Canada's High Arctic working as a Construction Manager for a prominent Montreal Construction firm. His Arctic career spanned eight years with extensive travelling to the Eastern High Arctic. On several occasions Tim’s travels took him within 600 miles of the North Pole.
In 1986, Tim decided to re-root himself in Chester and started his real estate career in 1988. Tim later established T.W Harris & Assoc. Real Estate Limited in 1989. In 1995 Tim changed the name to Tradewinds Realty to better reflect the identity of his growing company. For those who know Tim, he never stops trying to achieve and in 2003, he entered the EMBA program at Saint Mary's University and graduated with his MBA, along with the Class of 2005.
2011 saw Tim climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa for the Make-A-Wish Foundation (Atlantic) which reflects his deep rooted love for his community, for Nova Scotia and for its people. A former avid sailor, Tim has competed in Chester Race Week over many years along with being Chairman of a few Chester Race Week regattas. Tim is also a Past Commodore of Chester Yacht Club as he is an avid supporter of the Chester community and a proud ambassador for the south shore.
Tim is a passionate Willys Jeep collector and takes pride in the restoration of his 1946 Willys along with his current project, restoring a 1928 American built summer home in Chester named the Cavendish House.
In 2020, Tim sold Tradewinds Realty to Engel & Völkers and has happily continued on as an Associate Broker and Advisor for the new firm. Partnering in real estate with his wife, Barbie Nunn-Porter, Tim and Barbie have represented many of Nova Scotia's finest properties. From fish shacks, to bungalows to estate waterfront properties and everything in between and at every price point, Tim and Barbie look forward to inquiries from buyers and sellers in Southwest Nova Scotia and beyond.
